We are currently in the process of correcting and standardizing the bibliographic notes and expanding the points of access to facilitate our users’ consults.
In 2017 we commenced the description process for the Ignacio Pirovano Archive. The remaining archives are only partially uploaded. We plan to continue with the updates and uploads throughout the year.
The Museo’s Historical Archive: This archive contains over 15,000 documents related
to the different activities carried out at the Museo from 1956 to the present day. This
documentation allows for a comprehensive reconstruction of the history of the institution
and its active participation in the modern and contemporary art scenes in our country. The
types of document that can be found in this archive include: notes, files, correspondence,
newspaper cuttings, catalogues, photographs, posters, invitations, etc.
The Ignacio Pirovano Archive: In 1980, after the death of her brother Ignacio and in
fulfilment of his wishes, Josefina Pirovano donated a set of artworks from his collection to
the Museo de Arte Moderno. As part of this donation, the Library was entrusted with
Ignacio Pirovano’s personal archive, which consisted of around a thousand paper documents
related specifically to Pirovano’s multiple professional activities as a collector, patron and
José León Pagano Archive: In 1968, the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires
received the donation of the José León Pagano Archive, which consists of documents
gathered by the critic while researching his book El Arte de los Argentinos (Argentinian Art)
and for articles published in the La Nación newspaper between 1922 and 1948. The archive
consists of around 16,000 documents: photographs, negatives, drafts, catalogues, fliers,
invitations, periodic publications, etc.
Alberto Heredia Archive: Following his death in 2000, Alberto Heredia’s will included the
donation of his house-studio to the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires, along with
568 of his works, 129 works by other artists from his private collection, his library and his
personal archive. The Alberto Heredia Archive consists of a large number of documents
produced and collected by the artist throughout his lifetime, representing a valuable
contribution to the context and information surrounding one of the Museo’s most important
Envelopes-legacies from Argentinian and foreign artists: Over 3000 envelopes
containing graphic documents that provide information about the careers of Argentinian and
Photographic Archive / Photo-library: Made up of over 12,000 images (including
negatives, positives and slides) related to modern and contemporary art in Argentina and
overseas. This archive includes photographs from the Museo’s Historic Archive documenting
its activities and artworks from its collection as well as a collection of photographic portraits
and artworks by Argentinian and foreign artists. A large part of the photographs document
exhibition openings from the 1960s taken by the renowned photographer Sameer Makarius.
